Daily Ways to Pray: Week Twenty-Four
During these weeks (24 through 30), read scripture slowly, alert to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Imagine you are present at the scene. See, hear, smell, taste, touch as one present
  • Ask for sorrow with Christ in anguish, tears and deep grief because of the great affliction Christ bears for you. [Spiritual Exercises 203]
  • Reflect on the people in the passion, loving them as Jesus does.
  • Consider what Jesus suffers in His human nature, what He desires to suffer. Try to grieve, be sad and weep. [Spiritual Exercises 195]
  • Consider how the divinity hides itself. It could destroy its enemies but does not do so, and leaves the most sacred humanity to suffer so cruelly. [Spiritual Exercises 196]
  • Talk to Jesus. Ask Him how, being our creator, He has made Himself man, thus to suffer and die for my sins. Look at yourself and ask what you have done for Christ, what you are doing for Christ, what you will do for Christ. [Spiritual Exercises 53]
